AHMEDABAD: Ahmedabad-based multispecialty healthcare player Shalby Hospitals, which specializes in knee replacement surgeries, is actively looking at setting up a hospital in Hyderabad, said a top official of the company on Monday.
"We are looking at opportunities and are serious about having a presence here. We are eyeing possible tie-ups and existing hospital infrastructure," Shalby Hospitals director (outpatient services worldwide) Bharat Gajjar, who was in town for a free joint replacement check-up camp in the city that catered to around 400 patients.
According to Gajjar, around 30-40 patients from south come to Shalby Hospitals in Ahmedabad for total knee replacement (TKR) surgeries every month.
He pointed out that many patients preferred the hospital because of its 'zero technique' TKR surgery procedure. "With our zero technique procedure, the surgery gets over in 10 minutes as compared to the usual 45-50 minutes that other hospitals take. Moreover, the patients can resume walking after three hours," he said adding that the surgery cost between Rs 1.5 to Rs 3.5 lakh.
The surgery technique devised by the renowned joint replacement surgeon Vikram Shah, who is also the chairman and managing director of Shalby Hospitals, is done with a minimal incision and thus results in minimum blood loss and side effects.
According to Frost and Sullivan, the cases of total knee replacement (TKR) are on rise and are expected to breach the 1.6 lakh mark in 2015.
